welcome to Measle's Animal Haven Pit Bull Rescue and Sanctuary
Welcome!! Our Central Ohio organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue and sanctuary for pit bulls and senior dogs. We are dedicated to promoting responsible pit bull ownership and providing pit bull education, advocacy, and rehabilitation.
We do not have a shelter facility. When we have space available in our foster homes, we focus on saving the most needy dogs. We also fund free spay/neuter surgeries for "owned" pit bulls through our PIT FIX program.
Hey -- we're talking to YOU, Reynoldsburg and Bexley (both Central Ohio cities where pit bulls are BANNED)!!
Congratulations, your forefathers responded to the media hype and flawed stereotypes of pit bulls and enacted a law that bans pit bulls within your city limits, regardless of the temperament or behavior of the individual dog.
Have you figured out yet that your ban has done NOTHING to deter criminals and irresponsible owners who flout the ban?! Dogfighters and other bad guys don't care about your ban!!
Breed-specific legislation is inherently ineffective because it attempts to regulate the wrong end of the leash, instead of focusing on enforcing laws already in place (e.g., leash laws) or penalizing criminal and irresponsible owners of all breeds of dogs.
Bad things are still happening to pit bulls in Bexley (where pit bulls have been banned since 1991) and Reynoldsburg (banned since 1996). All your ban does is causing the death of way too many innocent pit bulls!!
It's time for Bexley and Reynoldsburg to catch up with the State of Ohio and enact laws to regulate dogs based on their behavior, not their breed.
help us help them
Did you know that brindle pit bulls are often overlooked and just plain discriminated against because people think they are "scary looking"??? It's true! :-(
Dark brindle dogs don't photograph well and some people are biased against them. Appearance definitely plays a role in a potential adopter's selection of dogs. In a 2011 study by the ASPCA, appearance was the most frequently cited reason for adopters of both puppies and adult dogs.
You be the judge: here's Morgan...in December we saved her from freezing to death. Morgan is a very happy girl and her tail is always wagging!
Thomas is a 4 year old pit bull that was rescued from a huge dogfighting ring in 2009. He is a big-headed boy who is a true Breed Ambassador.
Thomas has a zest for life that is truly infectious!!
